Are Free WordPress Themes Good?
Free WordPress themes are great and they work perfectly. Because a theme is free to use, t doesn’t mean that it’s bad. Particularly themes on this list are from great developer teams. They are modern and optimized for WordPress.
Good free themes are fast, lightweight, modern, have great built-in features, work great with plugins, etc. And that’s because, in reality, they are premium themes but have a free version. And the free version has limited features. That’s it.

Top Free WordPress Themes
As long as we know that free themes are great, let’s dive in and find out some of the best themes you can use for free.
1. Kadence
Kadence is my favorite free WordPress theme. It has so many customizable options that some premium theme doesn’t have. One of the few free themes that offer header and footer builder. With Kadence you can build modern and lightweight websites.
Kadence is also a very, very fast theme. It is greatly optimized, clean, and modern. You can edit pages and blog layouts, change colors, fonts, archive pages, etc. Just download it and try it yourself. You’ll be amazed. Also, it comes with awesome pre-made templates you can use for free.
2. Astra
Talking about free WordPress themes? Then we must talk about Astra. It is a fast, clean, and modern theme. Also, Astra is a very lightweight theme. Works very well with all the major page builders.
It has many great features like a header and footer builder. But is not as customizable as Kadence. For example, you have very limited options with blog layouts. Astra has free and premium templates that you can install with one click. They have templates for Gutenberg, Elementor, Brizy, and Beaver Builder.
3. Blocksy
Blocksy is an amazing free WordPress theme with amazing features and customization options. It is very similar to the Kadence theme. It comes with beautiful free templates. It’s a fast, lightweight, and very modern WordPress theme.
This theme works great with page builders like Gutenberg and Elementor. It’s a notably customizable theme and you can change the layout, colors, fonts, and many settings. Actually, you can customize almost everything and you may never use a premium theme again.
4. OceanWP
Another great free theme is OceanWP which is developed by one developer. It is fast, modern and one of the most customizable free themes you can find. OceanWP is one of the oldest themes and at one time it was the most customizable free theme.
It also comes with some templates but the library is small compared to Astra. I have used it on a couple of websites and it works very well. Works great with Elementor too. Also, has a plugin that adds various functional capabilities.
5. Neve
Neve is a very clean, fast, ad modern theme. It is made by ThemeIsle which has another good theme like Hestia. You can customize the layout, blog, header, footer, colors, and more. Neve works with Gutenberg and major page builders.
It also comes with great free and paid templates. They have a very good design team that builds beautiful templates. Neve is great for small business websites and also for small eCommerce websites.
6. GeneratePress
And the last free theme on this list is GeneratePress. This is the first free theme I fell in love with and still love to this day. Fast, modern, and clean theme with lots of options to tweak.
Has a very good structure, design and it is great for blogs. Very simple to use and customize. Great theme for beginners. Includes pre-made template library. Also, has its Gutenberg blocks plugin and you can build a beautiful website quickly.
Conclusion
As you can see from the list, there are many good free WordPress themes you can use. If you are not sure which one is the best for you, try each one of them, get used to it, and choose the one you like the most.
